Privacy Policy

Every tone, sweep and recording is generated in your browser, and no audio you play, record or open ever leaves your device. This page explains the one exception to a site with no accounts, no advertising and no tracking of you as a person: aggregate page-view statistics from Google Analytics.

Last updated: 2026-10-12. This page is short on purpose. There is little to disclose.

Privacy The short version

Nothing is uploaded. Every tone, sweep, noise signal and click is synthesised locally by the Web Audio API in your browser. When you use the voice recorder, your microphone audio is captured and processed in the browser only and is never transmitted. When you use the pitch shifter or time stretcher, the audio file you open is read and processed in the browser only and is never transmitted. There is no server that could receive any of it.

Detail What is and is not collected

Accounts, advertising and tracking

  • No accounts. There is nothing to register, log in to, or pay for.
  • No cookies of our own. The site sets no first-party cookies.
  • No advertising. No ads, no sponsorship, no advertising code.
  • No behavioural profiling. No pixel, no fingerprinting script, no cross-site profile of you.
  • Page-view statistics. Google Analytics measures which pages are visited, in aggregate. It is the only third-party script on the site, and the detail is in the next section.

Google Analytics

The site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-FK8YJ3XSX7) so that the people who build and pay for it can see which tools are used and which pages are worth improving. It collects standard aggregate data: the page you viewed, the referring page, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device, browser and screen information. It does not receive anything you type, play or record, and it cannot see your audio.

  • Cookies. Google sets first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_FK8YJ3XSX7 to distinguish one visit from another. They contain a randomly generated identifier, not your name.
  • IP addresses. IP anonymisation is enabled. Google states that it does not log or store the full IP address for this property.
  • Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends either signal, the analytics script is not loaded at all and no request is made to Google.
  • Where the data goes. Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC process it as an independent controller. See Google's own privacy policy and how Google uses data from sites.
  • Opting out. Block third-party scripts or cookies for this site in your browser, use a content blocker, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. The site works normally with analytics blocked; nothing here depends on it.
  • Local development is excluded. The script is only added to production builds, so the dev server never includes it. Serving a production build locally (for example with npm run preview, or a browser preview extension) does send hits, so block it if that matters to you.

Definitely not collected

  • No audio. Nothing you play, speak, record or open as a file is transmitted anywhere.
  • No text you type. The voice generator's text, frequency entries and settings stay local.
  • No microphone data. The recorder's stream is processed in a local audio graph and closed when you stop.

Nothing is uploaded

All audio is generated and processed on your device. This applies to the microphone input on the voice recorder and to any file you open in the pitch shifter or time stretcher. Processing happens in a local audio graph, and the microphone stream is closed when you stop recording. No audio data is sent anywhere.

What is stored locally on your device

The site keeps a small amount of information in your browser's localStorage so that settings survive a reload. It stays on your device and is not transmitted.

KeyWhat it holdsWhy
sg.master.v1 The master volume slider position, a number from 0 to 100. So the site level is the same when you come back.
sg.hearing.v1 Your results from the hearing test, if you choose to save them. So the log survives a reload. It is only written if you use that page.

Everything of ours is keyed under sg. To clear it, use your browser's settings to delete site data or storage for soundgenerator.app. Clearing it resets the volume and removes any saved hearing-test log; the site works normally afterwards. Clearing site data also removes the Google Analytics cookies described above.

Third parties

Google Analytics is the only third-party script, font or resource the pages load. Everything else is served from this domain. Three things outside the site may still apply.

  • Google Analytics. Covered in full in the section above, including how to block or opt out of it.
  • Hosting server logs. The static files are served by a hosting provider, which may keep ordinary server logs such as your IP address and the time of the request, as any web host does. Those logs are outside this site's control.
  • Speech synthesis voices. The voice generator uses the speech voices installed by your browser or operating system. How those voices are provided, which may include remote synthesis on some platforms, is governed by your browser and OS vendor, not by this site.

Your rights

There is no account and no profile of you to request or delete. For the aggregate statistics described above, you can object by blocking the analytics script or by sending the Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, both of which stop it loading. For questions or requests, write to the address in the contact section.

Children

The site has no accounts and collects no personal information about individuals, so it can be used by anyone. Where a young user operates the generators, adult supervision is sensible for the same reason it is for any audio equipment: loud tones can damage hearing.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised text will appear on this page with a new date at the top. The date is generated when the site is built, so it always reflects the published version.
